Barbicania

These assorted sculptures and objects on the theme of Barbicania all originated in the packaging of a Dyson fan I bought for the studio at the height of summer (for paintings created from this packaging see "Barbican in a Box"). at the height of a heatwave, and working outside on my balcony, I sought to bring to life the forms, colours and shapes I observe on the Barbican Estate where I live and work as an artist. These objects have enabled me to find a tangible form for expressing the colours of concrete, the textures of concrete and the varied brutal forms in the urban landscape I experience on a daily basis. This expensive item made me think more deeply about my practice with recycled objects and whether recycling can alleviate our anxiety about the future. There is an element of fun too: see my bird-house for a bird that appreciates art.
